I recall the sales pitch "makes you more time and more money" it has done that for me and is very easy on fuel. I've had over 13 John Deere riding mowers this one is best by far. I bought mine new is has over 600 hours on it now. I know our local Deere dealer does not routinely do that. Took it to the dealer and he sent me home with a loaner so I could get my yard mowed.

So far I just change the blades and oil, pour in more gas and go! I did have a little issue with it not running the first year. Dixie was definitely faster, fans on top of spindles and it stays clean, hardly need to blow it off. When I was looking for a new mower about 4 years ago, the Dixie Chopper was about $1500 less than a Deere 757? I think it was. Our opinion is the Deere's are far better than the dixie chopper. We've got both, the dixie chopper, then we got a deere 797, then another 797, We are a also a mainline CIH dealer, but I could give you a long list of unsatisfied JD commercial mower-former owners. We are a Cub Cadet commercial dealer and we have almost put in a "NO" John Deere mower trade clause. John Deere 997ĭixie Chopper all the way, Deere mowers are so over-blown it's not funny. I bought one from a friend who is a Deere dealer and they prefered the Dixie John Deere 997ĭixie, "Worlds Fastest Mower" it isn't just a saying.

I am having a hard time talking my dad into a new mower but i dont think he is going to budge. Yea the 997 is a great mower im sure but the f935 is just lacking some power. We're probably only talking a couple MPH though, the 997 is still pretty darn quick. I don't know much about the Dixie, but I would bet it might go a little faster since that's what Dixie chopper hangs their hat on. We have a 60" deck and it never runs out of power, however i'm sure that if you really hit some tall grass with the 72" you'll probably have to slow down a little. The Yanmar diesel engine is about as proven as it comes, given that the same basic engine has been used in many applications for the better part of 2 decades. Seriously though, the 997's are great mowers, durable and leave a great finished product with the 7-iron deck. The 997 is a tank.both mechanically and physically! I do not the F935 but my dad does so we will probably keep it until something major goes wrong. When it bogs down in about 4in" tall grass so does the engine, also a diesel. We have a deere F935 and has 1150 hours on it and lacks power in tall grass. I would suspect that come trade time, the Deere will bring alot more.

Oh wait, I replaced the fan belt and had the alternator and starter rebuilt ( as a preventative ).Įdit: replaced the steering cylinder as well. We still have our 455 and it has 3300hrs on it and other than belts and blades and the odd lift linkage piece.nothing has been done to it. I have had deere diesel mowers for years and they have been bullet proof. It will be hard to beat the Deere I think in longevity. I see lots of both around here as both brands have dealers close. What would be the price and the best mower for speed, best cut, and life expectancy? Edited by 8300johndeere 20:45 Key points are a diesel, no cat engine to expensive, 72-74" cut, and also around 200 hours. I am debating on whether the John Deere or Dixie Chopper is better.
